Sept. 6, 2018 through Jan. 12, 2019 at the John Bryan Community Gallery, Second Floor at John Bryan. Steel Drum Music by Joseph Glenn. Alan Macbeth, besides the scope of his portraiture, was the builder of the Oten Art Gallery at 309 Xenia Ave. in Yellow Springs. It was built over a 40-year process of adding one arch after another with brick and stone. The last aspect was the turtle lying serenely above the door. In the rear of the beautiful building, Alan planted a vast garden of plants, stones, ponds with fish and water falls. The front of the gallery Alan also planted a garden and fish ponds, peeking at those from the sidewalk who could see it through large open arches from the sidewalk, an entirely new perspective all well thought out by the artist and builder, Alan Macbeth. This show is also to remember other artists who have passed and whose works are a part of Yellow Springs Arts Council Permanent Collection.
